What Raphael Varane, Kieran Trippier deal can do to Man United

Published

on

Manchester United are out for business this season, having secured the signature of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund. He will complete a £73million switch to Old Trafford imminently

The Red Devils are now being linked with the signatures of Raphael Varane and Kieran Trippier and it is understood it could be sealed in the coming days.

Arsenal legend, Ray Parlour thinks the Red Devils can go on to win the English Premier League title if they land these deal.

Varane is set to cost United £50m after entering the final year of his contract at Real Madrid while Trippier will cost around £18m.

Speaking of the possible deal, Ray Parlour told talkSPORT “Well certainly Varane is a top-quality player, I was really impressed with him during the Euros, he’s an excellent defender, so that will be a great signing for Manchester United

“Trippier, we know what he can do. Whether they can play three at the back at times, [Aaron] Wan-Bissaka obviously is the main man, [Trippier] can play left-back as well, so he’s very good cover and he’s a great pro as well.

“He was excellent around the England camp, is very experienced now after two great years at Atletico, so he’ll be another good signing for the money they’re going to spend.

“That’s what [Man United] have got to do, they’ve got to compete and try to get closer to Man City, who everyone is chasing.

“Liverpool are the same, they’ll be trying to make signings as well. You can’t stand still in the Premier League.

“I think that Maguire and [John] Stones were a very good partnership during the Euros and I can imagine Maguire and Varane will be a decent partnership.

“If you’ve got a good defence you’ve always got a chance, and with the attacking players they’ve got, and with Sancho coming in, it will give them a much better chance of getting closer and challenging for that title.”

United in major advantage over Arsenal in midfielder chase

Published

Man United seems to have a major advantage over Arsenal in their chase of Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo this summer transfer window.

Both Arsenal and Man United have indicated interest in signing the midfielder as the Moises Caicedo continues to impress for Brighton this season.

However, the Gunners seem set to lose out in the race as the player had earlier made his sentiment known by saying he dreamt of playing for the Red Devils.

This could be a major point of decision for the player as that could influence his response to both teams.

Speaking to The Athletic last year, Caicedo admitted: “My dream is to play for Manchester United. Antonio Valencia is an example to follow.

“With his strength and dedication, he was able to get to that level. That motivates me to keep working hard and do the right things.”

This could be a major blow to Arsenal as Mikel Arteta is understood to be willing to add another midfielder and a winger to the team.

The North London outfit have already spent over £100 million to bring in the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Matt Turner, Marquinhos and Fabio Vieira and it is obvious that they are not done .

Arsenal could have a huge advantage over Manchester United in their race to sign Wolves winger Pedro Neto this summer transfer window.

Both EPL clubs have been heavily linked with a move for the Wolves forward, who has impressed with his short spell with Wolves.

The priority for Mikel Arteta is a winger and a midfielder as he hopes to wrap up the busy summer window before the curtain is drawn.

However, the North London outfit may have been given a huge boost in their chances to land the 22-year-old.

Speaking to Talksport back in January 2020, he revealed that Arsenal used to be the side he would support growing up and that could help him wish to play in a club of his dream.

“Arsenal,” He said when pressed on his favourite team growing up. “Because with Arsene Wenger I thought they played – besides winning trophies – they played some very good football.”

“I watched the semi-finals and final.”

“If you want to be a football player, then you have to watch English football.” 👏

“My favourite team was Arsenal.” Neto told newsmen.

It’s now left for Arsenal to push for the deal as they will have to submit a batter offer than Man United.

Man United to get new owner? See latest proposal from intending buyer

Published

on

Man United could be set to have a new buyer after British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe confirmed his interest in buying a stake in the Red Devils.

This offer is also with a view to taking full control of the club in the future.

Ineos founder Ratcliffe is understood to be on the verge speaking to the club’s American owners, the Glazer family, about purchasing a stake in United.

“If the club is for sale, Jim is definitely a potential buyer,” a spokesperson for Ratcliffe told The Times.

Ratcliffe’s spokesperson added that the motive is to upgrade the club’s dated facilities, most notably Old Trafford.

“This is not about the money that has been spent or not spent. Jim is looking at what can be done now and, knowing how important the club is to the city, it feels like the time is right for a reset,” the spokesperson added.

It comes after a Bloomberg story published on Wednesday claimed the Glazers are considering selling a minority stake in United and the club’s elite supporter, who has an estimated net worth of $13bn (£10.8bn), has the means to take full control of the Premier League club.

The Glazers became United’s owners in 2005 after spending £790m, much of which came in the form of loans, to complete a takeover of the club.

However, the American family have faced intense criticism from supporters over their ownership, with many fans unhappy about a perceived lack of investment in the club.

Reports hint that fans will stage a protest against the owners before the game against Liverpool at the weekend.

Revealed, why Arsenal didn’t win United for this summer transfer signing

Published

on

It has been revealed that Arsenal did not win Man United for the signature of Lisandro Martinez because of the reservations manager Mikel Arteta had about the player.

The North London outfit and the Red Devils were both in the race for the Ajax defender and Mikel Arteta’s side had a chance in the race but eventually pulled out of the race.

It has now been revealed that the Spanish boss had major concerns over signing Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez because of his height.

The former Ajax star, who was linked to both the Gunners and United in the transfer window was also opened to any of the EPL sides as he was keen in leaving Ajax.

United went on to outbid the Gunners, with Martinez, having the advantage of past relationship between the defender and his ex-Ajax coach Erik ten Hag at the Old Trafford stadium club.

According to The Athletic, Arsenal wanted Martinez as a left-back and backup central midfielder, the roles that Oleksandr Zinchenko will now fulfill in their squad.

Manager Erik ten Hag signed Lisandro Martinez to play center back, despite his height being only 5ft 9in, a risk Arteta was not willing to take.

Arteta reportedly felt that Martinez could not succeed as a central defender in the Premier League, but admired his quality on the ball and aggression.

United backed to sign as Pundit hints on Frankie de Jong alternative

Published

Kevin Campbell has suggested Man United should make a concrete move to sign Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic this month.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker said Sergej Milinkovic-Savic would be a perfect alternative to Frankie de Jong.

Frankie de Jong has been linked with a move to Old Trafford but the midfielder has been reluctant.

According to Kevin Campbell, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic will strike “the balance” in Erik ten Hag’s current midfield if he joins from Lazio.

When asked by Football Insider if the centre-midfielder would be a welcome addition at Old Trafford this summer, Campbell said: “Listen, Milinkovic-Savic is a top player.

“United need real quality in that midfield. They need somebody who can dictate a game. For me, the balance of their current midfield isn’t right.

“That is why Ten Hag has been after De Jong all summer. He knows that De Jong understands what he needs.

“De Jong is a really good player. Who knows what is happening at Barcelona though.

“If De Jong is on the market a lot of clubs would be interested in him though, let me tell you. It is not a given that he is going to go to Manchester United, far from it.

“Fred and [Scott] McTominay are not bad players but they are not the standard required to get Manchester United where they want.”

Arsenal join Man United in race to sign interesting EPL midfielder

Published

on

Arsenal have joined other Premier League sides in the race to sign Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo this summer transfer window.

Mikel Arteta and Edu have both assured that the club will still do some businesses before this summer transfer window ends and a midfielder is one of the positions being considered.

Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans was the main target for the Gunners but interest seems that have cooled off for his services with Moises Caicedo now being mentioned.

However, Arsenal will battle Manchester United among suitors looking to snap the Ecuadorian starlet up before the summer transfer deadline.

Brighton only signed Caicedo from Independiente del Valle in a £4.5million deal in February 2021 and he is already being linked away after impressing last season.

According to the Sunday Mirror, Arsenal and United join West Ham United, Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and Juventus in monitoring his situation and could be picked up by the highest bidder.

Caicedo has earned his plaudits as a defensive midfielder, boasting of pace, power and technical ability. This makes it difficult for Brighton to let go of him because they have got no viable replacement and they are not under any pressure to sell.

United urged to copy Arsenal and be slow in making this sack decision

Published

on

Man United have been urged to act like Arsenal and be slow in making a sack decision for manager Erik ten Hag.

The former Ajax boss has had a difficult start of his spell at Old Trafford with the latest 4-0 humiliation against Brentford.

However, Man United correspondent for Goal, James Robson on his Twitter handle said Erik ten Hag should be given time.

“Obvious echos of Arsenal’s start last season & look at them now. Arteta’s plan for young players & dumping big names was backed at huge expense. Two summer windows and they are transformed. #mufc bought into Ten Hag’s vision, but haven’t given him the players he needs.

“This isn’t to say Arsenal are the perfect model or that they’ll even get into the Champions League this season. They won’t trouble City or Liverpool – but they are about as good as United can hope for unless they spend the sort of transformative money to get in contention.

“City finished third in Guardiola’s first season because the players couldn’t play his way. They spent £260m+ on a squad that already had KdB, Aguero, De Bruyne, Gundogan, Kompany, Sterling, Sane, Stones…

“That is how successive United managers thought they would be able to operate. It doesn’t excuse of wasted money wasted – but when you spend every window trying to find that one transformative signing, it leads to panic buys and an imbalanced squad.

“Ten Hag is trying to spread his v limited budget thin to bulk out his squad, with the majority put aside for De Jong. But the early signs are that it’s not touching the sides.
Existing players can’t play his way. New players are getting swamped in the ensuing mess.

“How many times can anyone remember seeing Eriksen caught in possession like he has been in a United shirt? He gets the ball and there are so few options to move it on that things like yesterday happen.

“I don’t see Rabiot changing that dynamic on his own. But really wouldn’t be surprised if he was the only other midfielder United sign this summer.”

Gary Neville reveals ONE major problem United have with this summer transfer window

Published

on

Former Manchester United captain, Gary Neville, has claimed a major problem the Red Devils have is that players are not eager to join the club anymore.

Neville made this claim after United were thrashed 4-0 by Brentford on Saturday to make it their second defeat in as many games this season.

According to Neville, United cannot sort out their woes by signing new players, who are not even enticed by money.

This is as he suggested that attempts to make new signings will not pull any positive result because they might not be able to get the best of the players.

He told Sky Sports: “That’s the problem now. United in the past have always answered the fans’ anger through money and spending in the transfer market.

“The problem is that no, no one wants to take their money. That’s a massive issue. They can’t spend the money.

‘If you’re a player watching that performance in the first half what are you thinking about coming to this club?”

Following the two defeats in two games, there are fears that the Red Devils will have to battle their lives out in the next game against Liverpool next weekend. This leaves new manager Erik ten Hag in a difficult situation.
