Sancho mentioned as pundit identifies 5 players that would be part of Ten Hag’s rebuilding

Alan Hutton has named Jadon Sancho as one of only five players who have a long-term future at Man United ahead of Erik ten Hag’s arrival.

The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted there needs to be a “massive rebuild” at Old Trafford, with the futures of many players in doubt.

Erik ten Hag has been tipped to ensure a massive clear out at Old Trafford and have a new team that can produce positive results at Old Trafford.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “There are only a few names that really stand out for me that’ll be there moving forward.

“Sancho, Fernandes, possibly McTominay, it’s up in the air. Elanga as well, young, hungry, energetic. Rashford, if they can get the best back out of him.

“Ronaldo, of course, but I’m talking about the future, not the immediate. I’m talking about moving forward.

“These are the guys that are still within the group that I think can give something. I think a lot of other players, there will be question marks over.

“You’ve got a lot of players with question marks over their heads: Lindelof, Dalot, Telles. You could go through the whole squad.

“I think it’s a massive rebuild. It’s a huge job when I look at it. When I look at the squad list, there are a lot of players there that I think a new manager would look to move on.”

Mourinho sends danger message to Ten Hag as he takes jab at United, says trophies can’t be won at Old Trafford

Published

on

Erik ten Hag would have received a danger message and a challenge with Jose Mourinho suggesting Manchester United are not expected to win trophies.

He recalled his time at Old Trafford and Tottenham, saying that the pressure placed on him to win silverware – both at Old Trafford and Tottenham – was unrealistic.

United have not won the Premier League title in nine years, since Sir Alex Ferguson’s final campaign in charge in 2013, while their only other trophy outside of Mourinho’s reign was secured by Louis van Gaal in the FA Cup in 2016.

Carlo Ancelotti, who is three years older than his Portuguese counterpart, faced similar criticism to Mourinho when he was at Everton, but is now in the final of the Champions League with Real Madrid and has already won the title in La Liga.

Asked if both he and Ancelotti had silenced their critics, Mourinho explained: ‘I believe that the problem with Carlo Ancelotti was that when you coach Everton you are not about to win the Champions League!

‘And with me, you know, people they saw me taking up jobs where they thought that I could win trophies but they were not jobs where we were expected to lift trophies.

‘But when you have such a winning career on a cyclical basis so to speak, you can expect that, people can say that.

‘Personally I’m not worried about this [being replaced by younger coaches]. I do not think and focus on the generations, I focus on quality.’

He continued: ‘It’s a matter of quality, motivation, passion. Without passion you are finished. Without pressure in the build-up to big games you are finished. I know very well myself, I know very well Carlito as well, but there are more examples that we could make.

‘But we are the ones who will call it when we want to stop, and I’m afraid people will have to wait a long time before I say that it’s over!’

United to suffer transfer disappointment as top target discouraged from Old Trafford move

Published

on

Liverpool hero Steve McManaman has discouraged Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong from making a move to Manchester United this summer window.

The Dutch is a top target for the Red Devils as new manager Erik ten Hag seeks to build a new team that would succeed next season.

A major factor that stands in the way is the inability of the Red Devils to secure qualification to the Champions League next season.

‘Manchester United could potentially sign Frenkie de Jong as I don’t think he’s had the greatest time at Barcelona,’ former Liverpool and England star McManaman told HorseRacing.net.

‘I know that Barcelona have just got themselves back into the Champions League for next season and they are building something there, but he does have a relationship with Erik ten Hag, so maybe it’s a case of him not feeling the love in Barcelona.

‘Playing for Barcelona on the rise or Manchester United on the rise is a completely different thing when one’s playing in the Champions League and the other one isn’t.

‘For him to go to Manchester United then I think they’d have to pay him more than he’s earning at Barcelona, which I think will be a really hard thing to do considering that he went to Barcelona for a huge amount of money.

‘You’d rather stay at Barcelona in the Champions League with Xavi trying to change things around. Players like [Andreas] Christensen and [Robert] Lewandowski potentially coming in makes that a more exciting challenge in my opinion.’

Football pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor has revealed that Erik ten Hag is set to make his first brutal but honest action of asking some players to go as he looks to build a new team.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Ten Hag has a “big job” on his hands.

“He will know there is no time for sentiment, no time to be anybody’s friend.

“He’s got to come in, meet every player and be honest. To some he’ll say ‘I’m not having you, you can go’ to others he’ll say ‘Yes, you need to do better but I want to keep you’. He’s got to be brutally honest.

“The job he’s got on his hands just to catch the top four, forget about the top two, is massive.

“He will know he needs players in and players out. He knows he’s got to be a strong manager because the media will eat him alive after 10 games if he hasn’t got Man United firing.”

“The key is getting him. They have got to get him.

Kante finally speaks on Chelsea future amidst interest from Man United

Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante has responded with questions about his future beyond the end of this season.

Kante is subject to speculations for a move to Manchester United because new manager Erik ten Hag is a fan.

However, the midfielder refused to reveal where he’ll be playing next season as he’s only focused on the current campaign with the Blues.

Kante told Sky Sports: “The only thing is sure that I have one more year and the only thing is to finish this season.

“I’ll think about it in the right time.”

Although Noel Whelan has discouraged United as he said they should not be targeting players over 30 this summer.

He also suggested Kante’s lack of resale value makes a deal an unattractive proposition.

“I’d like to see Man United looking to bring in much younger players,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“I don’t see the point of getting players in who are 31 or 32. They need freshening up all over the park, and to do that they need to get young talent through the door.

“Don’t get me wrong, N’Golo Kante is an exceptional player. He can still be one of the best midfielders in the Premier League on his day.

“But what is the point of signing players for two years?

“It’ll take a transfer fee – and they won’t get anything back for him in a couple of years.

“The fans will like to think Ten Hag is looking to build something for the future rather than just looking for a quick fix.”
