Pundit still blames Arteta for “big” exit from Arsenal

Published

Gabriel Agbonlahor has refused to take Mikel Arteta’s explanation for the exit of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, insisting that the Spanish boss did not handle the matter properly.

The last days of Aubameyang at Arsenal were not hoped to be remembered as he was asked to train away from the team and stripped of his captaincy.

A footage emerged via the All or Nothing Documentary on Amazon Prime last week with the manager seen scolding the striker before his eventual exit from the club.

“I didn’t like it,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“I do rate Arteta and I think he’s done a lot of good things at Arsenal and I’ve loved the documentary, even though I don’t look into too much because he knows the cameras are there. If I knew the camera was there I’d be prime Sir Alex Ferguson in the dressing room.

“I understand you don’t want the player, I understand you want to get rid of him but don’t make him train on his own.

“It happened to me and it happened to people I played with. It’s the worst thing that can happen as a footballer, your mental health is at a record low.

“You’re alone, you feel like a bad egg and your teammates are scared to speak to you.

“You’re training on your own or with the youth team and you feel demoralised. That’s what clubs try and do to force you to leave, make you so uncomfortable coming to work that you want to leave.

“I don’t like that and I’ll never like that. I don’t rate Arteta for doing that.

“He looks like he’s got the respect of the players and demands top performances but you can’t tell because it’s hard to tell with a documentary.”

How Arteta’s words to striker is helping as expected return could make Gunners attack more deadly

Published

The words of manager Mikel Arteta to Folarin Balogun seems to be yeilding results as the youngster is helped the youngster improve and become a man.

The striker was told to ‘develop as a man’ and he is proving himself on loan at Ligue 1 side Reims.

With five goals in 8 games, only Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Terem Moffi have scored more goals than him so far this season which suggests he’s somewhat adapted to life in his new surroundings.

More to that is that he is already thinking of his return to Arsenal to add to the fire power of the Gunners attack.

“Before I moved, Mikel said he wanted me to develop as a man. It was kind of like an open answer and for me to interpret what me meant by develop as a man,” he said, as cited by the Mirror.

“But by moving abroad, I’m starting to learn what he meant. It doesn’t just mean on the pitch but also off the pitch. I think by the time I go back I’ll be in a better place to compete than I was before I left.”

“I realised there were certain things I would struggle with but I think that’s a good thing,” he added.

“It helps you to manage stuff you’re uncomfortable with which is important. It is still early but definitely if I am around those sorts of names at the end of the season I would be really happy with myself.”

Aston Villa coach, Steven Gerrard, has told fans why Arsenal’s last minutes efforts to to sign midfielder Douglas Luiz during summer transfer window deadline.

Arsenal showed late interest in the Brazilian just hours to the end of the summer transfer window after missing out in a number if names, especially Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans.

It was understood that the North London outfit had three bids rejected by Aston Villa, with the final offer worth £25 million.

Luiz will be out of contract with Aston Villa next summer, and it’s an opportunity for the club to sell him and not lose him for free in the next one year.

The Brazilian’s dream to play for a team in the Champions League or Europa League would have come true if he made the move to the Emirates Stadium.

However, Gerrard has now claimed that Aston Villa blocked the 24-year-old from leaving Villa Park to Arsenal because they did not want to lose him this season.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Aston Villa’s Premier League tie with Manchester City this weekend, Gerrard, a Liverpool legend, said: “I have got confidence that he [Luiz] will understand the situation and the club’s decision that we didn’t want to lose a very important player and a top player so late in the window.”

He added: “From a personal point of view, I very much back the club’s decision and stance on that. I spoke to Dougie face-to-face yesterday and he understood where it was at and the position that the club was in. He very much respects the decision. Hopefully it will calm down in the hours and days to come and he will be fine moving forward.”

Arsenal are expected to complete the signing of a midfielder before the end of the summer transfer window with either Lyon star Lucas Paqueta Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans.

Both players have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium with the Gunners keen on more additions before to the end of the summer transfer window.

Youri Tielemans is believed to be available with his contract with the Foxes running out next summer transfer window but the Gunners have cooled off their interest in his service with no official bid to Leicester City.

With Tielemans out of contract next summer, Leicester may feel forced into selling Tielemans, or risk losing him on a free transfer next year.

Should Arsenal fail to land Youri Tielemans, they still have the option of making a move for Lyon midfielder Lucas Paqueta.

Paqueta has been heavily linked with a move away from Lyon this summer and The Sun reports that Arsenal could make a move for him in the coming days if they fail to land Youri Tielemans.

Either way, Arsenal have about seven days left in the transfer window, and if a midfielder still remains a priority, they’ll have to act fast.

The Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has previously admitted that his squad lack options in a number of areas and signings would be made before the end of the summer transfer window.

With the window set to be closed, this suggests that the Gunners will seal a deal within the next five days amid links to Pedro Neto and Youri Tielemans.

The Gunners have spent over £100 million this summer transfer window but they seem to be undone with the window as Arteta looks to bring in a winger and a midfielder.

So far Arsenal have signed Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Matt Turner, Marquinhos and Fabio Vieira.

The Spanish boss had hinted that the club may not be done there. Speaking shortly after Zinchenko joined, the Arsenal boss was asked about further incomings and left the door wide open in his response. “You can see we are a little bit short in some positions for the way we want to play, but it is something we are trying to address,” he said.

Howbeit, there have been a number of exits from the first-team with the likes of Alexandre Lacazette, Bernd Leno, Pablo Mari, Nuno Tavares, Lucas Torreira and Folarin Balogun gone on either permanent or loan deals.

Also the futures of Hector Bellerin and Ainsley Maitland-Niles remain uncertain.

On the other hand, manager Mikel Arteta has been hailed for making the decision to sign Gabriel Jesus, disclosing that the Brazilian is a winner and his presence at the Emirates Stadium has helped improved the mentality in the dressing room.

There are suggestions that more Man City players will want to find their way to Arsenal in subsequent transfer windows.

This is after Phil Foden, while speaking to Amazon, sang highly, the praise of Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, his former boss.

Recall that after his retirement, Arteta ended up at Man City as an assistant to Pep Guardiola and the testimonies are there how how much an impact he made at the club before picking the job at the Emirates Stadium.

However, Arteta succeeded in bringing Man City dou Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko this summer transfer window, taking advantage of past relationships at Etihad Stadium.

Howbeit, Foden could not hide the fact that he is enjoyed a good working relationship with the Spanish boss while they were together at Man City while hailing him as a great coach.

Foden did not fail to mention that Arteta did some extensive work with him on a one-to-one basis,

“Unbelievable you know. I remember working with him closely after training on some things I needed to improve. I know how good he can be as a coach. Thinking the right ways to play football, so he’s definitely a great coach,” Foden said.

It will therefore not be out of place to state that more players could be headed for Arsenal from Man City in the nearest future and Foden could be one of them.

What Paul Merson, manager said about Arsenal’s likely next signing

Published

on

Arsenal hero Paul Merson and England boss Gareth Southgate have both spoken the praise of Arsenal’s latest summer target Jarrod Bowen.

Arsenal are said to have enquired about Jarrod Bowen from West Ham United after he was influential for the Hammers last season, contributing 31 times in scoring or assisting goals across all competitions.

Paul Merson described the 25-year-old as “outstanding” when discussing him earlier this year: “He’s an outstanding player and has gone from strength to strength since swapping Hull City for West Ham – I can’t believe it took so much time for Gareth Southgate to call him up!

“When West Ham have a big game coming up, he’s a player – along with Declan Rice – who gets rested and that just shows how much he’s grown in stature. Come to think of it, he reminds me of a forward version of James Milner – reliable, honest and works his socks off for the team.”

Manager Gareth Southgate was also full of praise for the versatile forward, outlining why he would fit perfectly at Arsenal: “I think Jarrod adapted really well, he looked dangerous from the start.

“He probably had most of our attempts on goal, couldn’t quite find that final bit of quality to actually steer the finishes past the keeper but his runs were dangerous, he pressed with endeavour for the team and so I’m sure he’ll be really pleased with the way he has done.”
