Frankie de Jong finally speaks on reports that he’s joining Man United

Published

Frenkie de Jong has reacted to reports that he is joining Man United by stating that he is ‘flattered’ by the rumoured interest.

The 25-year-old is Erik ten Hag’s top target to bolster the Red Devils’ midfield but he had earlier refused to consider a move to Old Trafford.

Now it is understood that he is opened to a move to England but has insisted that he has no update on a potential transfer and remains happy at Barcelona.

United will have to table as much as £70million – roughly the same fee they paid to Ajax three years ago to sign the midfielder.

However, the Netherlands international appears to have opened the door to a potential move to the Premier League, even though he is happy to remain at Barca.

Speaking after an excellent display in his nation’s dramatic win over Wales on Tuesday night in Rotterdam, De Jong said of United’s approach: ‘You’re always flattered when teams show interest in you as a player.

‘But, as you say, I am at the biggest club in the world at the moment and I feel fine there, so no news.’

De Jong is largely remaining coy on the speculation surrounding his future and burst out laughing on Sunday when asked if he would be swapping the beaches of Catalunya for the cold of Manchester, saying: ‘No, I can’t say anything.’

A week earlier, he had underlined his desire to stay at Camp Nou, telling ESPN: ‘Barcelona is just my dream club, even from a young age.

‘I’ve never regretted my choice despite the fact that I had hoped for more in terms of prizes than I’ve achieved so far. But I have never regretted my choice.’

Journalist reveals why Arsenal haven’t signed this midfielder, as player also open up on delay.

Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur has revealed that Leicester’s Youri Tielemans is only waiting on Arsenal to make their bid for his signature as he is keen to join.

With just 12 months left on his contract, a move is believed to be likely this summer, and Terreur has claimed that he is waiting on Arsenal to make their move.

It is understood that the Leicester City midfielder is the priority for Mikel Arteta in his bid to improve his squad ahead of next season.

“I’m following all Belgian players around in Europe, “the journalist told the Last Word On Spurs Podcast.

“A few years ago they were all in the Premier League, so I watch a lot of games, and of course, as players are moving I’m checking on their movements every two days. There are a few Belgians who will move this summer.

“Not to mention Lukaku who wants to leave Chelsea and go back to Inter. Youri Tielemans, he is just waiting for an offer from Arsenal I think, while Mertens is at the end of his contract at Napoli.”

Howbeit, Arsenal still stand a chance to win the signature despite having a number of challengers in the market.

Ten Hag shocks everyone with decision to keep this players at Old Trafford as summer transfer nears

New Man United manager has been tipped to begin work in the summer which starts with a major overhauling of the team.

Juan Mata is one player everyone expects to leave Old Trafford as age is no longer on his side but that won’t happen on Erik ten Hag’s terms, according to reports.

The 34-year-old is out of contract in the summer, with no new deal agreed with the Spaniard as of yet.

Now reports claim Erik ten Hag wants him to remain at Old Trafford for another season.

Mata now has talks planned with new United boss Ten Hag, with a decision yet to be made over his future.

The midfielder confirmed to The Athletic there is a ‘conversation pending’ with the Dutch coach, who is set to meet the squad on Monday.

‘I will see when we speak how we feel, what his ideas are, after that a decision will be made,’ Mata added.

On the reasons why he signed a one-year extension last summer, Mata said: ‘First because I love the club, second because I hoped I could give much more on the pitch than I ended up doing, and third because last season was horrible for me, for many reasons, especially because of the passing of my mum

‘It wasn’t an easy season at all with the pandemic and that personal tragedy. I didn’t want to end my career at Manchester United that way, without fans in the stadium, with all that I have lived over the last months.

‘I am gonna be very honest, when we made the signings we made [last summer] I genuinely felt, “We are gonna really compete to win the Premier League now”. That’s why I renewed, I wanted to be part of that.

‘One of the things I always say: winning a massive trophy with Manchester United would be an incredible feeling after being here for so many years, knowing the fans and everyone working in the club like I do.’

Veteran Dutch coach drops major hint that marks Ten Hag’s end at Ajax

Veteran Dutch coach Aad de Mos has stated that the big hint that Erik ten Hag’s stay at Ajax has come to an end is that he has lost his dressing room.

Ajax lost the Dutch Cup final on Sunday as Ten Hag is understood to be willing to leave for Manchester United at the end of the season

Erik ten Hag has reportedly impressed Man United ahead of Mauricio Pochettino who was also linked earlier on.

De Mos told Eindhovens Dagblad: “Ten Hag has lost his way a bit.

“He has to be careful after these series of results, because I think the dressing room at Ajax is really sick. He has of course taken risks.

“The Ihattaren substitution also turned out completely wrong. Ten Hag is losing players in the dressing room.

“Since (sporting director Marc) Overmars left, he no longer wins a game, the football is completely gone.”

Should Man United announce Erik ten Hag, he would be charged with the responsibility of raising the team to be able to challenge for the title next season.

Tottenham urged to immediately sell this player to United for this reason

Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about Tottenham on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels has urged the club not to hesitate over selling Steven Bergwijn to Man United this summer.

The Red Devils are understood to be linked with the winger with claims that Erik ten Hag, who is on the verge of becoming United’s manager is a big fan.

Wenham claims Spurs would not be strengthening a rival if Bergwijn was to move to Old Trafford.

“If they are going to offer the money then I have no issues selling to them,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I have seen him in the Premier League and I would still sell him in the summer as I have said many, many times.

“I think we can make some money on him. Man United’s potential interest could lead to Ajax coming forward earlier with an offer.

“There is the Ten Hag link but I still see him joining Ajax this summer. I have no interest in this ‘selling to a rival’ thing.

“I imagine the club would just be happy to sell him, it’s not like he instantly weakens us and makes them so much stronger.

“We deemed him not good enough for us, so if they want to pay the money then fine.”

Marseille manager Jorge Sampaoli has claimed that Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi, who would cease to be a Gunner at the end of the season is on the way to becoming one of the best midfielders in the world.

Marseille’s president, Pablo Longoria, had confirmed that Guendouzi will permanently sign for the French club at the end of the season after a clause was triggered in his loan agreement with Arsenal.

Under Mikel Arteta, Guendouzi fell out of favour at Arsenal due to concerns over his attitude but after finding his form in Ligue 1, Sampaoli believes the 22-year-old is progressing into a world-class talent.

‘He has also managed to impose himself, which can be seen with his selections for the France team. Finally, he is the soul of the team.

‘There were very good discussions with the president, with the coach and people in my family.

Former England striker reveals why move to United did not work out

Published

Former England international striker Jermain Defoe has revealed that he was close to joining Man United but it didn’t work out until he landed at White Hart Lane with Tottenham Hotspur in 2004.

‘When I was younger at West Ham and was coming through, like any young player there is speculation and was always linked to Man United,’ he told talkSPORT.

‘I remember speaking to the Man United boys years later and they thought I was coming.

‘You always think at this stage and think it would have been amazing to play under someone like Sir Alex [Ferguson] and all the trophies they’ve won.

‘I try not to regret anything as things happen for a reason.

‘I remember getting a phone call from my agent the day before I signed for Tottenham and said I’m taking you to Juventus.

‘A club that size with its culture, that experience and that. Went back to Tottenham and loved it, Harry Redknapp signed me again.’

Defoe’s most recent club saw him return to Sunderland in January 2022 on a short-term deal but just two months later he’s decided to hang up his boots.

One of his wish would have been to be named as one of those that made history at Old Trafford.

Piers Morgan, Aubameyang ‘exchange words over Arsenal exit

Arsenal fan Piers Morgan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang exchanged words on the social media over his move away from the Emirates Stadium.

Morgan has always insisted that it was a mistake to let Aubameyang leave after he fell out with Mikel Arteta and was stripped of his captaincy.

The Gunners fan therefore hit out at his fellow supporters on Twitter after the 32-year-old striker netted in Barcelona’s 4-0 victory over Osasuna on Sunday evening.

‘Arsenal fans have spent the past two hours gloating about why we’re so much better without Aubameyang and they’re glad he’s gone,’ Morgan wrote after the Gunners beat Leicester.

‘Meanwhile, he just scored his sixth goal in nine goals for Barcelona, which includes five goals in six La Liga games. I miss you Auba.’

But Aubameyang had no interest in being pitted against Arsenal fans and played down Morgan’s criticism, saying his departure has worked out well for everyone involved.

‘Thanks Piers but sometimes everyone benefits from a separation,’ he responded.

‘Most important is that everyone is happy now. And we had good times that I will [not] forget.’

On Monday morning, Morgan replied: ‘Classy response, as I would expect from you, Pierre-Emerick, but for the record: I’m not happy.’

What Paul Merson told United that will stop them from signing Pochettino

Published

on

Paul Merson has warned Man United against engaging PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager.

The former Tottenham Hotspur boss is in line for the job as he is being considered alongside Erik ten Hag of Ajax with Ralf Rangnick set to leave the role in the summer.

Merson wrote in his Daily Star column: “Manchester United should be running a mile from Mauricio Pochettino after his Champions League fiasco with Paris Saint-Germain.

“United were cringeworthy in the Manchester derby. Embarrassing. Not one United player gets in the City team. Not one single player. And that’s extraordinary.

“It was like watching an FA Cup tie between a Premier League side and a non-league team.

“But if you were a United fan watching PSG collapse against Real Madrid you’d be even more worried.

“Everyone knows United love Pochettino but I’m not sure he’s right for them at all.”

Merson added: “I don’t think they should be going for Pochettino at all. That should be the end of that.

“He didn’t win a trophy at Tottenham. Didn’t win the league in his first season at PSG, where that is basically a given. And now this.”

Merson concluded by saying “the last person they need in charge of that [the rebuild] right now is Mauricio Pochettino.”
