Douglas Luiz finally speaks out on failed move to Arsenal

Published

on

Arsenal target Douglas Luiz has finally spoken out on his failed move to the Emirates Stadium on the summer transfer deadline day.

The Gunners submitted three offers to Aston Villa for the midfielder who was keen on leaving but the club rejected them.

The Brazilian was highly needed at Arsenal as Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny were out on injury.

While it is expected that the Brazilian midfielder was left disappointed, he went to his Instagram account and posted that he was focused at Aston Villa.

He wrote: “100% focused here! @avfcofficial.”

Speaking after all the drama, manager Steven Gerrard spoke about how he was certain that Luiz would understand the stance the club held.

“I’ve got confidence that he’ll understand the situation and the club’s decision,” Gerrard said. “We didn’t want to lose a very important player and a top player so late in the window.

“From a personal point of view, I very much back the club’s stance on that. I spoke to him face-to-face yesterday and he understood where we were at and the position the club was in. He very much respects the decision.”

Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta is no doubt short in that position at the midfield and would be left with no option than to stick to Sambi Lokonga.

Aubameyang makes emotional claim about his career with subtle dig at Arsenal

Published

on

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has sent a subtle message to Arsenal in an emotional claim about the downs in his career as a player.

The Gabon striker left the Emirates Stadium to Barcelona in January after falling out with Mikel Arteta and was stripped of the captaincy following a breach of discipline.

The striker was in Spain for less than eight months though after completing a deadline day transfer back to London and he is yet to score for his new club but has only played two matches – both in the Champions League – since joining on September 1.

He has also seen a new manager come in as Graham Potter replaced Tuchel just one week after Aubameyang’s transfer had been completed.

Aubameyang, speaking of some of the toughest times during his career, said: “I’ve been through a lot of bad moments, not injuries.” Reading between the lines Aubameyang may well be describing the end of his Arsenal career, which is not a highlight of his.

He added: “I was okay but at the beginning of my career everyone was talking about me as a sprinter only, this hurts sometimes because you know where you’ve come from, you know you went through a lot of stuff and you always try your best and some people, even from your club say you’re not good at playing football.”

This EPL star now in Edu’s plans as January transfer window approaches

Published

on

Leandro Trossard’s impressive performances for Brighton has made him a target for Arsenal and Edu as he is now being considered ahead of the summer transfer window.

More to scoring two goal and providing six assists in the Premier League this season, Belgium international has been in superb form for the his side this season, to have been attracted to a number of clubs

Brighton paid £15m for his services in 2019 but he has made a big confession about where he would love to play if the opportunity throws itself at him and that gives the Gunners an edge in his chase.

Speaking to Het Niuewsblad while on international duty with Belgium, the 27-year-old revealed that he would “want to go” if the opportunity to leave Brighton for a bigger side came about.

Trossard said: “I have evolved tremendously. I now know how the Premier League works. I’ve grown tremendously in that. Confidence, mentally, physically. I have become better. Our coach did leave for Chelsea now but speculations about me following him make no sense.

“If the opportunity arises, I want to go, but I want to play and not sit on the bench.”

Now that Brighton has a new manager, it is a turning point for the club that could mean the manager not having a great grip of the team to be able to stop the Arsenal target with the right fee.

Meet the “new Luka Modric” Arsenal could land this January

Published

on

Croatia international midfielder Lovro Majer, who is dubbed as the new Luka Modric has emerged as a top target for Arsenal after impressing in France and making the Ligue 1 team of the season at the first attempt

The Gunners are keen on a midfielder following injury concerns and they are keen to solve that situation in January so as to save the season.

Majer is already known to the English fans when his Coratia side faced the England national team and he would be given the credit as part of the team that pipped Russia to top the group for a place in Qatar.

Indeed, upon clinching a deal for Majer worth an initial €12m, Rennes technical director and former France international Florian Maurice pointed to the player’s ability to slot in as an eight or a 10, a standout Positano for the Gunners.

“I’m really happy to join Stade Rennais FC. I’ve heard a lot of good things,” Majer said upon joining in August 2021. “It’s a big club with big ambitions.

“It’s a young team but full of talent. [Former Dinamo teammate] Kévin Théophile-Catherine told me nothing but good things about the club. He taught me a few words in French (laughs).

“Stade Rennais FC is progressing, it is very ambitious. I think it’s the perfect place and the right time for me to discover something new after having achieved some very good ones with Dinamo. I’m very motivated by the idea of playing with my new partners and meeting the supporters. I join a very good team.”

McManaman sounds strong warning to Klopp on why he should avoid these TWO Arsenal targets

Published

on

Steve McManaman has warned Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp on why he must avoid signing Douglas Luiz or Youri Tielemans who were both linked with a move to Arsenal.

The Gunners made an attempt on the two midfielders as Mikel Arteta was keen on adding one to his team but failed after offers for Douglas Luiz were rejected.

Klopp is also facing same fate as he is keen to recruit a new central midfielder.

McManaman feels both midfielders do not possess the quality that Klopp needs to strengthen his Liverpool midfield.

‘Douglas Luiz and Youri Tielemans are both good Premier League players, but I don’t believe they’re good enough for Liverpool,’ McManaman told Horseracing.net.

‘I’m not convinced it will be a smart bit of business by Liverpool to move for Douglas Luiz, regardless of whether his contract is expiring or not.

‘I think he’s a good player, but I believe he needs to be quicker in a lot of the things he does to suit the style of football that Liverpool play.

‘You want to sign players that can get in Liverpool’s starting eleven and not just players who want to come and sit in a squad.

‘Youri Tielemans’ contract is also set to expire at the same time, but if you’re to play for the best teams in Europe, it’s hard to find the right players that will improve your side.

‘I don’t want to be disparaging towards either of these two players because they’re good Premier League players. Are they good enough to get in the starting line-up of one of the world’s best teams? I just don’t think so at the moment.’

William Saliba might be having a good season but Winterburn has one major concern over the defender

Published

on

While William Saliba is enjoying his debut season with impressive performance at Arsenal, the club legend Nigel Winterburn is concerned that the defender’s contract issue is yet to be concluded.

The 21-year-old has been loaned out on three separate occasions following his arrival from Saint Etienne in the summer of 2019 with a number of clubs now eyeing his service after his impressing with Marseille.

With 18 months left on his remaining deal Winterburn has questioned why it is taking Arsenal so long to tie Saliba to a new contract.

He told FreeSuperTips: “William Saliba is winning a lot of plaudits for the way he’s slotted into the team, how important is it for Arsenal to tie him down after the summer interest around him?

“Saliba is still interesting me because he arrived with a huge reputation. For whatever reason things didn’t quite work out as quickly as a lot of people would have hoped.

“It looked like he was going to leave in the summer, but he’s been very impressive since he came into the team. He can read the game very well, he’s quick and looks like a good defender, so I think it’s important that Arsenal do not let that contract get into next season.

“If they do, then they’ll end up putting themselves in a whole lot of trouble. I don’t think it’s difficult because you ask the player if he wants to stay, if they do then you sort out the contract.

“For me I don’t understand why these things can be so complicated now. If you’re enjoying your football and enjoy where you are, then sort the contract out and get it done as quickly as possible.

“I don’t really see the difficulty in that, but we have seen in the past that it can be complicated with some players who let their contracts run down.

“Maybe it’s just because it was so different from when I was playing, I always found it quite simple. I wanted to be at Arsenal, so any contract offered I signed up until the point you feel that your time is coming to the end which is what happened.

“For someone young like Saliba, he’s getting a lot of game time, he’s enjoying his football so don’t let that contract run down and cause issues down the line. Money isn’t everything, enjoying what you do is really important, and Saliba is currently a big part of this Arsenal team so I wouldn’t expect any problems.”

Wenger reveals what Arteta has done differently from him at Arsenal

Published

on

Legendary manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that manager Mikel Arteta has changed certain things at Arsenal and that is helping the club with their current strides.

The North London outfit have had one of the best starts in many years, helping them sit on top of the Premier League table.

Wenger therefore told Sky Sports what the Spaniard has done to change the culture at Emirates Stadium.

He said “I would say you need to identify the values of the club and I personally think that Mikel Arteta was very conscious of the values of the club because he’s been educated as well at Arsenal, he was captain of my teams and he wanted to restore values of the club.

“Overall, I think he has done that well. After that you need to create a belief and a sense of belonging, that you belong to something special, something that is bigger than you, that you want to serve. On that front, he’s done well.

“I’m still in touch with them and overall I believe they are going the right way. Arsenal is a special club and has special values; a good balance between tradition and forward-thinking. They do that well again now.”

Wenger gives incredible reason why Arsenal can surprise Man City for EPL title

Published

on

While it is generally speculated that Man City stand the chance of winning the EPL title this season, legendary manager Arsene Wenger says Arsenal can shock everyone to become champions.

This is as he gave two reasons why Arsenal have a “good opportunity” to win the league this year.

Arsenal currently top the table as the domestic season makes way for the final international break before the World Cup. The Gunners have won six from seven and lead Man City and Tottenham by a point apiece.

Now, speaking to Sky Sports, Arsenal legend and three-time Premier League winner, Arsene Wenger, said there is no one stand-out team and the unique disruption of a mid-season World Cup could have unforeseen effects.

When asked how long it’ll take before the Gunners are challenging for league titles once again, Wenger responded: “I would say they have a good chance this season.

“I don’t see any super dominating team. I believe there’s a good opportunity this season to do it.

“Of course it’s a little bit of a special season this year as well because you have the World Cup in the middle. You don’t know how that will affect the individual performances of the players and the teams.

“But overall I believe there’s a good opportunity [this season].”

Summer target suggests he prefers Arsenal move ahead of Man City

Published

on

While a number of clubs including Man City, Everton, Leeds United have indicated interest in the signature of summer winger Mykahaylo Mudryk, the player has suggested that he is interested in a move to Arsenal.

The Gunners’ interest in the player is not hidden having held talk with Mudryk’s representatives, per Fabrizio Romano.

It remains to be seen, however, if they are willing to meet a minimum price-tag of around £44 million.

“I think that many young football players dream of getting to the top level. I’m no exception,” Mudryk says, expressing his admiration for an in-form Arsenal for the second time this month alone.

“I repeat, I have a valid contract with Shakhtar. And I am focused on fulfilling the tasks set by the club.

“Of course, if there is an opportunity, I watch (to play in) matches in the top championships. Bayern Munich are playing very powerfully and strongly. Manchester City always play great football.

“But I have great admiration for the style of Arsenal; a talented coach, young, individually strong players who play good and modern football.”

Mudryk, dubbed Europe’s third-best left-winger behind only Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr, told CBS Sports a couple of week ago that he would struggle to ‘say no’ if Arsenal were to firm up their interest.
