Man United fans could be getting to witness the return of Cristiano Ronaldo to the Old Trafford after big promise made by vice-chairman Joel Glazer back in June, before the club splashed out big bucks on Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane.

Joel Glazer recently promised Manchester United fans he will back the club with “significant investment”, pointing towards Cristiano Ronaldo.

He said: “We want this club to always be successful and win trophies. To compete for trophies requires significant investment.

“The commercial growth at the club has helped deliver the revenue which ultimately underpins that investment in a sustainable manner.

“That approach has allowed us to have among the highest net transfer spend in world football over the last five years and have one of the highest wage bills.”

He also promised to pump money into Old Trafford.

Glazer added: “Old Trafford is at the heart of Manchester United and while we have spent over £100m over the last 10 years on infrastructure projects.

“We will now accelerate the process of planning much more significant investment and upgrades to the stadium. Rest assured, we will consult with supporters throughout the process to end up with a result we can all be proud of.”

Speculations over Ronaldo’s future was heightened when he was fit to feature for Juventus on Sunday in their Serie A opener with Udinese, but he allegedly made a request to Max Allegri to be left out of the starting XI.

Juventus vice-president Pavel Nedved played down speculation of problems between the player and club, telling DAZN: “Do not look for sensational things when there aren’t any.

“It was a joint decision with the coach because we’re at the start of the season and it is normal that he’s not fully fit.”

Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendez is believed to have been offering his client to potential buyers, with reports in Italy suggesting the Portugal international could be sold for as little as £25million.

Ronaldo has previously discussed the idea of a United return, telling the press in 2014: “I love Manchester. Everyone knows that. Manchester is in my heart.

“The supporters are amazing and I wish I can come back one day.”

Why Man Utd may not win trophy

Rio Ferdinand, has said the Manchester United inexperience could stop themfrom winning the Champions League this season.

Man United manager has brought in Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane this summer, as he seeks to win his first title at Old Trafford.

However, the team have not won any silverware since the Europa League final in 2017.

Their rivals, Liverpool and Chelsea have won both the Premier League and Champions League while Manchester City have won last season’s fina, their third league title in four years under experienced coach Pep Guardiola.

“I think Man United’s not a problem, but where they’re behind the other three English teams, is the experience of winning things.

“All the other three English teams have won things, whether it be the Champions League or the Premier League. Man United have yet to do that as this group.

“That’s where they are lacking, and that’s where they’ve got to play catch up and they’ve got to do that this season. The transfer window for them has been impeccable, but that’s got to translate into trophies,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has lambasted his side following a 2-1 defeat to Young Boys on yesterday.

Manchester United began their Champions League campaign with a shock loss to Young Boys.

The Red Devil took the lead when Cristiano Ronaldo scored his third goal since he returned to Old Trafford.

Later on, the game turned around after Aaron Wan-Bissaka received a straight red card for his challenge on Christopher Martins.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has lay blames on his team following a 2-1 defeat to Young Boys on Tuesday.

The Switzerland side eventually drew level, thanks to Moumi Ngameleu’s strike.

The match should have been a draw but Lingard tried to find David de Gea but his pass found Theoson Siebatcheu.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has seriously warned his squad that they must learn from their mistakes if they are to avoid an early exit from the championship competition.

“A lack of concentration, you make a mistake and you get done. We did that last year, conceding two sloppy counter-attacks against Basaksehir and lost that game in the last seconds today.

“So we know we’ve given ourselves a more difficult task. We did last year when everyone thought we were through after two games.

“You need 10 or 12 points: win your home games and one away from home. We’ve lost the opportunity to get three points, but we’ve got two home games next and got to focus on those two,” Solskjaer said after the game.
