Carlton Palmer urges Liverpool to sign David Alaba

Former footballer and current pundit Carlton Palmer has called on English Premier League title holders Liverpool to ensure they make a move for David Alaba.

The Reds have been heavily linked with a move for the Austrian international, who has refused to sign a new deal with German Bundesliga side Bayern Munich as his contract expires in the summer.

Liverpool are sure to face a battle from Spanish La Liga outfit Real Madrid as they are also keen on the signature of the 28-year-old defender.

With the current injury crisis at Anfield with the absence of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez. They have had to rely on youngsters such as Rhys Williams and Nathaniel Phillips for games. Jurgen Klopp is now considering a swoop for the versatile defender as they look to defend the Premier League title.

Carlton Palmer in an exclusive interview, therefore, stated that he will love to see the 28-year-old at the Merseyside outfit.

“The player I would take, all day long, is the boy from Bayern Munich, Alaba. He’s perfect, he’s 28-years-old, he’s a proven international player, he’s out of contact. He’s not one you’re taking just because you’re in the transfer window and you need to sign someone.

“You’re taking him for the long-term. You’re not just taking him as a centre-back because he can play anywhere across the back four. I think it’s happy days, you get him out of there for £13/14 million. And if you get him out of there for £13/14 million in today’s market for a player like that, who wasn’t in the last year of his contract, he’d be worth £35/40 million. I think they’ll try and get it done this window.” He said.

Palmer added that David Alaba should be signed for a cut-price fee and not wait until the summer when his contract expires before making a move for him.

There is no doubt about David Alaba’s quality, especially in this time of high need and a fee of, £13/14 million would be a small price to pay as long as the Premier League can be defended and the Champions League as well.

Liverpool, Chelsea and Man United hit dead rock in chase of Upamecano

Liverpool seem to have lost their hopes of landing the signature of Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig with the latest development.

Dayot Upamecano has been on the radar of top English Premier Leagues including Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United but they will not all land the player as a meeting has been held between his entourage and German Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

Upamecano’s release clause, believed to be worth around £36million, comes into play next summer but RB Leipzig will part ways with him for a bargain fee this summer as they have already accepted that the player is set to move on at the end of the season.

The club’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has reportedly held a two-and-a-half-hour meeting with the 22-year-old ‘s representatives and said “Of course we are thinking about him. We had a good meeting with his agents yesterday. Let’s see what happens”.

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge also recently confirmed the club’s interest in Upamecano.

He said: “We will of course deal with it, not only with this player but in principle on the positions where we want to do and have to do something.”

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Jurgen Klopp believes Leipzig stalwart Upamecano would be the “perfect” signing, however, his team-mate Konate is another option that is under consideration.

“Liverpool are interested in both [Upamecano and Konate],” the transfer expert told Anfield Watch.

“For sure, Konate has been scouted. The dream would be Upamecano also for Liverpool. He would be perfect in the opinion of Jurgen Klopp. But, at the moment, it is so difficult. There is Bayern Munich [interested in Upamecano]. There is also Chelsea looking at him and Paris Saint-Germain.

“When you have these kind of clubs and you have to negotiate with the player more than with RB Leipzig because you are paying the [release] clause. It is just up to the player and offering a big salary, this is not so easy.”

former arsenal player lacks faith in ozan kabak but hails agent

Arsenal legend Paul Merson has expressed his lack of faith in Schalke’s Ozan Kabak but admits that his agent deserves a knighthood for making the deal fall through last season.

You recalled that the Red have lost both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez to long-term injuries which made Jurgen Klopp move to bolster his defensive ranks with a deadline day loan move for the Schalke player.

It is understood that a £2m loan move was been agreed upon with a view to making the move permanent in this summer for a fee in the region of £16m.

However, former Arsenal star Paul Merson believes Kabak is lucky to have secured a move to a club as Liverpool from Schalke.

“He honestly cannot believe his luck,’ Merson told SkySports. “I mean if you’re his agent, you’d look to be knighted.

“You’ve just gone to the champions, and you’ve won one game all season. I’m shocked, it’s really shocked me. At Schalke, they’re expecting to lose every week. Here he comes into Liverpool and they’ve got to win football matches.

“If Liverpool had have drawn with West Ham, you’d have said that wasn’t very good because it’s Liverpool. If Schalke go and draw somewhere, it’s party time. That different mentality has to get into him as quickly as possible.

“I just think it’s about bodies. If Jordan Henderson got injured and one of the young lads got injured, you’ve got nobody there and you can’t be left with anybody.

“These aren’t £80m centre-halves, they probably won’t play, but they’re there just in case.”

Paul Merson is not too convinced about Kabak’s combative nature but believes the centre back will benefit by playing alongside much better players, particularly with van Dijk.

He said:

“When I heard he’s very physical, that worried me. Those days are long gone as a centre half when you came steaming through the back of a forward, you don’t get that any more.

“He might have to change his game there, but he’s a young kid. He’s going to be working with the best in the world in van Dijk and he’s going to have the best goalkeeper in the world behind him.

“I’m not being horrible here, but anybody can play alongside van Dijk – he’s a Rolls-Royce. If you’re playing next to him, you don’t need to be the most experienced player in the world. The lad might turn out to be a great signing.”

Neymar delivers latest Kylian Mbappe update to Liverpool

English Premier League outfit Liverpool now know their fate in their chance of World Cup winner with France Kylian Mbappe after being linked with his signature.

It is suggested that he would be a replacement for either Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane, with the duo linked with moves to La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona.

However, Neymar has now given the latest update by stating that Kylian Mbappe and himself are now happy at Paris Saint-Germain and will remain at the football club.

Neymar and Kylian Mbappe were linked with a move away from the Ligue 1 giants and the Brazilian international was linked with a return to Barcelona while Rea Madrid and Liverpool were in line for the France international.

“Many things have changed,” said the Brazilian forward. “I’m happy at PSG and I want to stay in Paris, I hope Mbappe will do the same.”

The latest development by being connected with the fact that Paris Saint-Germain recently parted company with Thomas Tuchel and former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is now in charge. He might have convinced them of his project and plans.

Kylian Mbappe also casted doubt earlier on on his move by saying he is still “thinking about” whether to agree to a new contract at Paris Saint-Germain, with the France superstar’s existing deal set to expire at the end of next season.

“We are in discussions with the club to try to find a suitable project. I said I was thinking about it because I think that…if I sign it would have to be a long-term commitment to Paris Saint-Germain,” Mbappe told TV channel Telefoot after Friday’s 4-0 win over Montpellier in Ligue 1.

“I am very happy here. I have always been very happy. The supporters and the club have always helped me and for that alone, I will always be grateful. But I want to think about what I want to do in the coming years, where I want to be. That’s what I am reflecting on.”

Liverpool will not wait until the nearest future to land the World Cup winner as there no longer assurances that he would be available in the coming summer transfer window.
