Arsenal turn to out-of-favour EPL star ahead of winter window

Published

on

The London giants Arsenal have turned their attention to out-of-favor Man City defender John Stones ahead of the winter transfer window.

John Stone moved to Man City from Everton in 2016 with a great prospect but he has failed to live up to expectations as he struggles for minutes under manager Pep Guardiola with Aymeric Laporte and summer arrival Ruben Dias taking up the role ahead of him.

Arsenal have been favored by the fact that John Stones is desperate to start playing again to be able to get into Gareth Southgate’s England squad. He is expected to consider a move away from Etihad.

The North London outfit will join a host of teams that are keen on the signature of John Stones but manager Mikel Arteta seems to be favored because of his relationship with the player when he was as Man City as an assistant manager.

The Gunners are believed to be monitoring the situation with the player and are ready to open talks with him after an adequate enquiry about developments surrounding him.

Manager Mikel Arteta has been able to add depth to his defence with the coming of Gabriel Magalhaes but there is a need to do more by adding John Stones as William Saliba is yet to get his place in the team after the manager said he is not ready for the challenge.

The Spanish boss is aware of the strengthens and weaknesses of the English defender and might be able to cope with him if he secures a move to the Emirates Stadium in the winter window.

Former Arsenal star Ray Parlour had asked his former club to make a move for John stones when also reacting to the interest by West Ham United for his signature.

“That would be a great deal for West Ham if they can get him for £20m, especially when you look at Ake who is going to City for £40m,” the former Gunners midfielder said

He added that “Arsenal are desperate for a centre-half… why don’t you take your chance and try and go in and bid for Stones? He’s had a bad time in recent years and he hasn’t really gone to where they thought he might go to.

“But you don’t become a bad defender overnight, he just needs that bit of coaching. And that’s where it could be key with Arsenal because obviously Arteta has worked with him over the last few years at Man City.”

Kevin Campbell says the likes of Pablo Mari and Hector Bellerin will follow Bernd Leno out the door on a permanent deal.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker added that Reiss Nelson and Ainsley Maitland-Niles would leave the club on loan as well.

This is after the North London outfit confirmed the exit of Bernd Leno to Fulham as Mikel Arteta already hinted that more players could leave.

When asked by Football Insider who else would likely leave the club before the transfer window shuts, Campbell said: “I expect Mari and Bellerin to leave as well.

“Bellerin has been a good servant but there is no point keeping him when his time is up.

“[William] Saliba wants his number two shirt as well. It is one of those things. It has to happen.

“Maitland-Niles is one I’m not sure on. It might be a loan move for him. Reiss Nelson might also have to leave on loan. He has looked alright in pre-season but the standards and levels at Arsenal are going up.

“You cannot carry dead wood. Some of these guys might be used as squad players and may well be the Hale End boys.”

Arsenal promising star makes stunning claim on Spanish club move

Marcelo Flores has left Arsenal to the surprise of the fans on loan to Real Oviedo in this summer transfer window.

The highly rated star, who is only 18 was expected to continue learning the ropes back in London but that has changed he is now set to play senior team football in Spain in this campaign.

He had several offers from clubs across Europe he chose Oviedo and his agent has now opened up on the decision-making.

Speaking about his client’s move, Guillermo Zamarripa said they wanted him to leave all the noise about him behind and join a club where he would play his game and develop himself under the radar.

“The idea was to quiet the noise around him a little bit; and finding a team, with that noise, would have been a mistake. We focused on understanding what the best step was, because today the economic part is not important,” Zamarripa told Medio Tiempo.

“Good offers arrived and we prioritised the environment and all the context, the city and the minutes they could give him. Also the issue of being a community member, because due to Brexit – the departure of the United Kingdom from the European Union – he loses that right and that is why the Spanish market was tempting. Oviedo gave us all those variables and it was the best step for his career.”

Reporter drops major Arsenal transfer news the fans can’t wait to hear

TalkSPORT reporter Alex Crook has dropped a major news that Arsenal are still looking to sign a new winger this summer after missing out on Raphinha.

Raphinha was a target for the Gunners but Edu explained that there was already a decision for the player to leave Leesa for Barcelona before he made the approach.

However, the journalist has also told GIVEMESPORT cast doubts that any potential arrival will arrive without the exit of Nicolas Pepe.

The Ivory Coast winger is a disappointing signing for the Gunners after his £72 million move from Lille as he failed to impress and he has been listed amongst the players that could leave the club even if the North London outfit will suffer some loss.

Although the player has unwittingly pleaded for another opportunity but he seems not to have won the heart of the manager yet.

However, Arsenal are tipped to bring in a winger despite plans to bring in a midfielder as well.

Speaking to GMS, the talkSPORT reporter said: “To be honest, I think they are looking to bring in a wide player, but it might depend on whether or not they can get Nicolas Pepe off the wage bill. Clearly nobody’s going to pay the £72m that Arsenal did.”

See details as Edu turns attention to 43-goal ‘sensation’ for Arsenal

Arsenal technical director Edu is understood to be considering PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo this summer as well as other targets.

This was disclosed by Ryan Taylor of the Daily Express following Edu’s earlier claim that he will still do some business before the end of this summer m

The Gunners have made five new signings so far this summer with over £100 million splashed on the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabio Vieira.

Mikel Arteta has overseen a productive transfer window so far but more names could still arrive.

Another prominent name linked with a move to north London is PSV ace Gakpo. Fabrizio Romano has previously stated that it would cost Arsenal between £33.5 million and £38 million to tempt the Dutch giants into a sale.

Taylor understands the 23-year-old remains on Arsenal’s radar but that there is yet to be a firm approach made for his services either after they missed out on Raphinha.

Taylor told GIVEMESPORT: “It’s difficult because not much has really changed in the past few weeks. I know fans are itching to hear names, but there isn’t really any out there that you can categorically say: ‘he is a target for Arsenal.’ I think it’s a case of looking at several options, Gakpo being one.”

Gary Neville tells Arteta to have a change of plans and do this transfer deal

Published

on

Gary Neville has urged Arsenal and Mikel Arteta not to consider signing a midfielder alone but he should make a move to sign a new full-back after watching Ben White struggle in that position last night.

Arsenal started this season with a 2-0 win against Crystal Palace last night as the Spanish boss fielded three of his best centre-backs in the match, with Ben White playing as a right back.

William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes had taken up the two centre-back spots on the team.

White struggled in that position for most of the game as Wilfried Zaha gave him a difficult time.

But Arteta had stated that he will still do some business in this summer transfer window, making emphasis on the midfield m

‘We are going to try and bring in more players.

‘There are a few things that we have tried but for now its time to work with the players we have.’

However, former Manchester United man, Neville believes they need to also bolster their defence.

He said: ‘I was more impressed in the second half. I expected their forwards to be brilliant but the question mark was over their robustness and resilience to handle the touch 20 minutes in away matches. That was where they really impressed me. They stood up tonight.

‘My only concern with the fullbacks. It is difficult for Ben White switching to that position. You need to take 10 games or so to get used to it

‘They could strengthen in central midfield. If Partey or Xhaka went down they might look a bit light. If they could get a really top midfielder, I just feel Xhaka is always going to let you down, he got booked today.’

Neil Warnock names one signing no one will ever forget for this emphatic deed

Published

on

Neil Warnock has suggested that Aaron Ramsdale is one signing at Arsenal that no one will forget in a hurry because he proved a lot of people wrong.

Warnock is not left out of this as he had thought that Aaron Ramsdale would be a disaster at Arsenal when the Gunners signed him last year, but the goalkeeper changed the thought with his impressive performance on the pitch.

Arsenal were the highest spenders in the Premier League last summer transfer window as they brought in a couple of players including Aaron Ramsdale from Sheffield United for £24 million.

Neil Warnock thought Ramsdale would be a disaster at Arsenal especially as he had relegated with Sheffield and in each of his previous two seasons in the Premier League.

However, he has changed his mind now and has claimed that he would pick him in his England side for the World Cup in Qatar this year.

Warnock told SportsBible while picking his England squad: “To be fair to him (Ramsdale), everybody thought it’d be a disaster when he left Sheffield United but he’s done excellent at Arsenal.

“He’d be in my squad.”

Ramsdale did not only impressed, he was able to keep Bernd Leno out of the team and eventually out of the club.

How Arsenal could hand Chelsea a major transfer blow with this one move

Published

on

Arsenal could hand a major transfer blow to their London rivals Chelsea if they revisit long-standing interest in Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans
and sign him before the transfer deadline.

The Belgian midfielder is available at a cut-price fee of £25million because of his contract situation and he is the top target for Mikel Arteta with Leicester City ready to let him go.

Meanwhile the Blues are eager to snatch the £80m-rated Wesley Fofana from Leicester, a move that would be difficult to accomplish if Youri Tielemans leaves for Arsenal.

Although the Foxes have put a huge price on the 21-year-old Frenchman, who it appears is keen to move to Stamford Bridge but his move will be stopped if Youri Tielemans eventually leaves for the North London outfit.

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers has already declared that Leicester will not be “exploited” this summer as they are more likely to let go of Youri Tielemans.

Rodgers said: “We don’t want to be losing our best players. You don’t want to lose your best players and then not be able to bring any in. That doesn’t stack up.” Though he has since added on funding signings: “It would have to be about trimming the squad or selling your assets. That’s something that the club are looking closely at.”

Ex player hints at transfer decision that may cost Edu of his friendship with Arteta

Published

on

Former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood says the relationship between Edu and Mikel Arteta could go sour as a result of William Saliba’s exit from the club in 2019.

Sherwood says it would not have been Mikel Arteta’s decision to send defender William Saliba out on loan.

This is after Saliba put in a Man of the Match performance on Friday night during Arsenal’s 2-0 win away to Crystal Palace on his Premier League debut.

“I am sure Mikel is asking the same question that you [Jeff Stelling] just asked,” Sherwood said during Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday. “Why wasn’t he here last year? Because it wouldn’t have been Arteta’s decision to loan him out.

“I am sure it would have been Edu’s, the sporting director, he will have said ‘No, he needs a year’, and it’s alright sending someone out for a year, a talent like that if you have got the replacement back at home but they clearly never had that.

“So he has probably missed him for a year. He could have been further forward with his development if he played last year, he would have done no worse than a lot of players who played centre-half for Arsenal last season.”

Arteta was also impressed with Saliba’s performance at Selhurst Park. “I think he was superb tonight,” Arteta told Sky Sports on Friday.

“The way we started the game, the first half-an-hour was superb, we should’ve scored one or two.

“If you want to win here you’re going to have [to] dig in, we had to a play a game we didn’t really want to play, they put four physical players on your last line. From there you have to manage the game which is not easy because they are so good.”
