Arsenal turn to out-of-favour EPL star ahead of winter window

Published

on

The London giants Arsenal have turned their attention to out-of-favor Man City defender John Stones ahead of the winter transfer window.

John Stone moved to Man City from Everton in 2016 with a great prospect but he has failed to live up to expectations as he struggles for minutes under manager Pep Guardiola with Aymeric Laporte and summer arrival Ruben Dias taking up the role ahead of him.

Arsenal have been favored by the fact that John Stones is desperate to start playing again to be able to get into Gareth Southgate’s England squad. He is expected to consider a move away from Etihad.

The North London outfit will join a host of teams that are keen on the signature of John Stones but manager Mikel Arteta seems to be favored because of his relationship with the player when he was as Man City as an assistant manager.

The Gunners are believed to be monitoring the situation with the player and are ready to open talks with him after an adequate enquiry about developments surrounding him.

Manager Mikel Arteta has been able to add depth to his defence with the coming of Gabriel Magalhaes but there is a need to do more by adding John Stones as William Saliba is yet to get his place in the team after the manager said he is not ready for the challenge.

The Spanish boss is aware of the strengthens and weaknesses of the English defender and might be able to cope with him if he secures a move to the Emirates Stadium in the winter window.

Former Arsenal star Ray Parlour had asked his former club to make a move for John stones when also reacting to the interest by West Ham United for his signature.

“That would be a great deal for West Ham if they can get him for £20m, especially when you look at Ake who is going to City for £40m,” the former Gunners midfielder said

He added that “Arsenal are desperate for a centre-half… why don’t you take your chance and try and go in and bid for Stones? He’s had a bad time in recent years and he hasn’t really gone to where they thought he might go to.

“But you don’t become a bad defender overnight, he just needs that bit of coaching. And that’s where it could be key with Arsenal because obviously Arteta has worked with him over the last few years at Man City.”

Presented with two midfielders, Arsenal told who to pick and sign

Arsenal have been handed the suggestion of either signing Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice as the club is keen on a midfielder ahead of the January transfer window.

Of lately, Jude Bellingham has been linked away from Borussia Dortmund and there are indications that he could leave in 2023 with the Gunners being linked.

However, former Gunners man Kevin Campbell said his old side should go for Rice if they have to choose between the two.

He told The Highbury Squad: “I truly believe this is the truth. If you are going to pay £100m, who would you buy? Would you buy Bellingham or would you buy Rice?

“I’d buy Rice. All day long. Bellingham is good and he is younger.

“But the game Rice has is perfect for what we have or what we are going to need. I am thinking he is a natural successor to Thomas Partey, who does things in a different way, but he can control a game himself, like Bellingham.”

Meanwhile, Man United are also keen on the signature of the Borussia Dortmund youngster as manager Erik ten Hag is also working hard to stabilize his team ahead of the second half of the season.

Charles Watts has confirmed that Arsenal will attempt bro bring in a midfielder in the January winter transfer window.

Manager Mikel Arteta has already made it clear that the club will attempt to make some signings in January so as to add depth to the squad.

“I believe Arsenal did actually make a bid for him towards the end of the summer transfer window and were told in no uncertain terms: look, it’s not happening now.

“Now, that may well change in January because Palmeiras are in a position now where they can start looking at accepting offers, potentially, and Arsenal will be doing a lot of groundwork when it comes to him.

“They’ve been talking to the club, been talking to their representatives for a long, long time. Everyone kind of knows where everyone stands in that situation, but it’s just a case [of] firming up that interest.”

Arsenal, United target told the club he should join

Published

Should Arsenal and Man United target Cody Gakpo listen to the advice of former Liverpool forward Ryan Babel, he would be heading to the Anfield to join the Reds.

This is as Babel urged the in-form forward to join Liverpool if he to make a choice.

Although, the former Liverpool star noted that Arsenal would be a perfect choice to make at the moment.

Babel believes Gakpo needs to take a range of factors into consideration when deciding his next club.

He told The Athletic: ‘You see him linked to clubs in England, such as Manchester United. Everyone has the right price so let’s see how he develops in the tournament. He has shown enough quality that he is ready for the next step, whether it’s in January or next summer.

‘As a Liverpool fan, I would tell him to go to Liverpool if they make an approach! Arsenal would also be an incredible team for him, with the current manager and the project that they’re building. He has to follow his heart.

‘When you are a young Dutch player, it is flattering to be linked to big clubs in England, but going from the Dutch league to the Premier League is a big step. Not every player is able to adapt and able to survive in the Premier League.

‘There are a lot of players who are written as the next star, then they go to the Premier League and they can’t cope. Dutch mentality is different to English mentality, and you have to learn a new set of rules.

‘In terms of pace, physicality, and the different game styles both you and the opponent will play week-to-week. Also the travelling, the preparation, it’s a lot to deal with.

‘When I went to Liverpool in my twenties it was like a whole new world opened. In Holland, when I was at Ajax I still lived at home with my parents and then not only was I living abroad but living by myself too.

‘It was hard not to lag behind, learning the rules of Liverpool and the English culture and the Premier League as a whole. If I was to advise Gakpo, I would say, “Choose your next club based on their style of playing.”

‘I know there have been scouts watching him, he has come to the tournament and he is fearless. Great movement for the goal and fantastic finishing. He is going to be on everyone’s wish list.

Asked by former Netherlands international Nigel de Jong if he would pay £80m for Gakpo, Cole added: ‘I would, 100 per cent.

‘Because he’s young, we know there is value in youth, if he doesn’t quite work out you are going to cut your losses elsewhere but he looks like the real deal.

‘I know it’s Qatar, I know it’s not one of the strongest nations but against Ecuador he scored, against Senegal he scored, he is affects the game and players who affect the game, that is where the value is.

‘I really like him, I have liked what I have seen at PSV and I am pretty sure there will be some offers on the door at PSV in January.’

Gabriel Jesus sends message to critics before return from World Cup

Published

Gabriel Jesus has told his critics that his lack of goals in recent games should not be something to worry about.

This is as he assured that he will score goals when he returns from the World Cup with Brazil in Qatar.

The former Man City star who spearheaded Arsenal’s resurgence this season, has just five league goals to his name and he is yet to score since October 1st.

Speaking to Apostagolos after Brazil’s 1-0 win over Switzerland on Monday evening, Jesus insisted that his lack of goals did not matter, saying: ‘Of course I’m the player who should score every now and then, I’m here for the goals.

‘When I’m on the field I try to score, but I also try to help. When we win, I’m happy too. To be honest, I’m not thinking about that. If I get a chance, I’ll score. I’m sure.

‘No, I don’t think [my finishing is a problem]. We can talk about finishing, but the most appropriate thing is to talk about the chances I had. It’s different football here and at Arsenal.

‘Even though I had a few chances and I lost, I’m sure it’s not about submitting. I started the season so well and nobody was asking about it. But it’s not a problem. I’ll kick the ball into the net soon and I won’t stop again.’

Arsenal have been told that they have a youngster who can deliver good performance and there will be no need to sign Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans with millions again.

The highly-rated young Romanian midfielder joined the Gunners from Vitorul Domnesti in July 2019 he is expected to called upon for a first team duty anytime soon.

He is versatile to be able to fit in as either a No.10 or a central midfielder, Cirjan is still getting back to his best after suffering his second serious knee injury of his career in April 2021.

Pundit reveals ‘secret’ talks between Shakhtar Donetsk and Arsenal

Published

on

CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that the talks held secretly between Arsenal and Shakhtar Donetsk over the signing of Mykhaylo Mudryk is different from what is being reported.

According to him, Shakhtar Donetsk have been reported to be asking for a fee within the region of £100 million but Private talks between both parties say otherwise.

He Arsenal could bring in Mykhaylo Mudryk for £56m, despite recent report by The Athletic that Mudryk has an £88m price tag slapped on him by his current employers, Shakhtar Donetsk.

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has suggested that the Gunners have had ‘very positive’ discussions with the player’s representatives.

Ben Jacobs told GiveMeSport: “There is some gamesmanship going on here. Publicly, Shakhtar are starting to say €100m, but privately, I’m told by sources at the club that €60-65m is a viable number that they might consider selling Mudryk for.

“That’s good news from Arsenal and other suitors’ perspectives that his price has risen, but not quite to €100m – at least not privately, despite what Shakhtar may say in public.

“We wait and see whether clubs feel that is market value or whether they try and play hardball. If they do leave it until the summer, there’s a chance that the price will go down a little bit further.”

Kevin Campbell expresses optimism as Arsenal set to sign Chelsea star

Published

on

Arsenal are reported to be on the verge of signing Chelsea star Christian Pulisic as the player seems to be out of favour at the Champions League.

This report has been reacted to by Kevin Campbell when he spoke to The Highbury Squad.

He said that Christian Pulisic has not been a difference-maker during his Premier League career

The 24-year-old is heading into the final 18 months of his contract and it is suggested that the Blues are willing to part ways.

Campbell therefore said Pulisic may be a good signing for Arsenal – though he admitted that he would have a point to prove.

“I think he’s a good player,” he told The Highbury Squad. “But you mention all the stuff he’s done, he wasn’t a starter at Chelsea. He was a bit-part player.

“I think he’s a really good player. Don’t get me wrong. But he wasn’t the difference maker at Chelsea in those games. He showed his qualities against England. I know England were poor, but I thought the USA did really well. I thought he showed that he can play at the highest level, that’s for sure.

“And with Mikel Arteta’s coaching, we might be able to get even more out of him.”
